Sports

Although the only sport we seemed to take
part in was how many puddings could you eat
at dinner and "race you to the restaurant!!!",
there are plenty of sporting opportunities for
    the more agile among you.

The 9 hole golf course is well above par and
kept our family in competitive mode on
several occasions....even if my ball did go out
of bounds and fall between the glass partition
and the course itself.  Mr Wakelover managed
to retrieve it by getting himself into some
unusual positions and poking around with his
golf club.  He retrieved 4 balls from the same
place, not all mine I hasten to add, but
ironically all pink, so I assume this is a
favoured shot for the girls on board!

For the Tiger Woods wannabes there is the
golf simulator (by the sports assistant desk on
Deck 13) which has a nominal fee of $25 per
session.  They also have competitions which
    you can sign up for.

The inline skating rink is next to the golf
course....it's quite tiring watching them all go
round in circles, but hats off to the elderly
gentleman who was giving it a go, kitted out in
helmet, knee and arm pads.  Very sensible sir and most impressive!  We did hear on the ship's
grapevine that a lady had broken her wrist on the skate track so do take care!

The Basketball court seemed to be a popular place for all ages but as I save my dribbling for the Gala
Buffet, we did not venture on here.

The jogging track is clearly marked with distances so that you can run a mile or whatever you fancy.  On
our first day aboard we all jogged about 20 yards just to say we had jogged on the track!

The Rock climbing wall however has still not been conquered by any member of our family.  We had
hoped to tackle it in the first week but always seemed busy doing something else.  By the second week
we were slightly hesitant in undertaking a task which involves hauling your ever increasing body weight
up a wall.  We planned to give it a go on the last sea day, but unfortunately it was closed due to high
    winds.  Honest!

There is shuffleboard on the promdeck but we didn't play this time unfortunately.  It was always out of
sight, out of mind and I didn't know where to get the equipment from.  One afternoon I met a couple that
were playing and asked where they had got the equipment from.  They pointed to a large cupboard
about 2 feet from where I was standing marked in large letters "Shuffleboard Equipment".  I gave them
my thanks and made a sharp exit along the prom deck, pretending I was walking away quickly for the
excercise value, rather than from my embarassment.  At least the pinkness of my cheeks looked like I
    had been excercising!

So even if your idea of keeping fit is walking at a fast pace along a buffet line, there are plenty of sporting
opportunities to keep you fit.  My personal favourite is "lifting a drink" and "sit downs in a comfy chair".
But each to his own.  Maybe that's why I have a rear the size of Christmas.  Ah well.....I'm happy!
